Shooting in a car

Shooting inside a car belongs to the category of the most difficult for operators. And that's how they get out

Another difficult task for the film crew is shooting inside the car. No wonder for the operator such work belongs to the category of the most difficult. However, in their professional baggage there are several techniques that help in the case.

Of course, it is possible to place an operator with a camera directly in the cabin. But this technique is considered incredibly difficult: after all, the operator cannot instantly change the settings or change the focus. But even in normal mode, limited space makes it impossible to work normally.

The option with a camera mounted on the hood is also not the best way out. Actors are distracted by a foreign object, which creates potentially dangerous situations, and the recorded sound with all the “road noise” even after careful processing by sound engineers remains far from ideal.

So, what techniques for filming inside a car are considered optimal? Firstly, this is shooting through the windshield, when the film crew is located close to the car, and the assistants at the same time swing it, creating the illusion of movement.

Secondly, in cinematography, shooting on a green screen in a special pavilion is widely used. The green screen is a kind of magic wand in the cinema, although not all directors like it. In their opinion, the screen does not give maximum naturalness. But a huge number of films were shot in this way, although at the next stage the art of the editor plays a huge role.

If the picture has a good budget and the director is confident in the professionalism of the performers, in such scenes he can use a road tractor or a special platform. This method requires excellent coordination, attention and concentration, and the whole team should literally work as one person. Especially if the shooting is conducted simultaneously from different angles. However, the result is spectacular!
