It would seem, why? But in the acting profession, you may need this. Try to play a cool macho or a femme fatale without an easy (or not very easy!) hoarseness in the voice! Of course, it happens that the actor involved in the film is then re-voiced, but not every director will go for it. And if such an exit is still possible in the cinema, then what about an actor playing in a theatrical production?
Simply put: if you are faced with the task of temporarily giving your sonorous voice a hoarse note, then this is possible. There are ways, they are time-tested and effective. But first about what should still be avoided.
A hoarse voice can be acquired by shouting loudly for a long time. Cons: there is a risk to disrupt the voice, the throat will definitely hurt a lot, and others are unlikely to appreciate the screams from your side. Another dubious way: to sing on high notes for a long time. A long time in our case is a few hours. In addition to the loss of time, the disadvantages are all the same as with the previous method. You can also “stir up” the ligaments with the help of spicy spices, whose effect on the oral cavity and throat is very irritating. Cons: quite likely stomach problems.
This is something that should not be done. And now let's talk about less dangerous options. For example, talking in a whisper for a long time. This is also not so unsafe, because a whisper irritates the ligaments no worse than a scream. But the effect is quite strong. It is known that the famous actor Anatoly Solonitsyn, for the sake of filming in Andrei Rublev directed by Tarkovsky, did not talk at all for several months — precisely for the sake of such a result. Next — the vocal technique of strobas. It's as if he was specially created to sing with hoarseness. Its additional advantage — strobas helps to warm up and relax the ligaments. The main task here is to make them vibrate, but not strain them. Experts advise for the sake of achieving such an effect, firstly, to completely relax. And secondly, for a few minutes or even longer, try to speak “on the creak". The way you do when you have just woken up, when your voice sounds somewhat hoarse by itself due to the maximum relaxation of the body. There are also special exercises and techniques to help you master this technique, tongue twisters and breathing practices.
The next useful way in this situation is to get out of your usual range of sound. How? The simplest and most easily accessible is reading aloud. But you will have to read in different keys. Start with the one that is familiar to you. Then go to a lower one, then even lower. Such a “descent” in the keys should be gradual and careful. In general, when working with the voice, it is worth paying extreme attention to yourself and your condition. The voice is a fragile thing, and it's easy enough to lose it.
It is very important to observe the correct posture here. For an actor, this is basically a huge plus (except for specific roles). But in addition to a pleasant appearance, a good even posture helps to control and control breathing, makes the lungs work more efficiently and the diaphragm move freely. We also recommend you such a wonderful exercise: You need to sit very straight, and press your chin to your chest. After that, start pulling the sound “and-and-and-and” in the lowest possible voice for you. Then lift your chin slightly and repeat the sound again in this position. Try to fix it, as it were, at the level that you need. The exercise should be performed regularly.
